An initial meeting with the sponsor (usually the coachee's boss) is held to align the coachee and organisational objectives and expectations. An understanding of the sponsor's perception of the client's (coachee's) strengths and areas for development is obtained as well as an indication of the likely future career prospects. This also provides the context in which the coaching intervention takes place.
