Stages in the coaching process:
Obtaining the brief: A sponsor
within the organisation will provide the context for the coaching
programme and specify the organisation's aspirations for the
individual client.
Setting the scene: This is an
intensive review of your values, competencies, skills, ambitions,
strengths and weaknesses, in the context of life and career to date;
present issues; and future aspirations. It takes the form of a
structured interview, frequently lasting several hours. It focuses
both you and your coach on a stock-take of your life and work; and,
incidentally, puts you fully at ease together. You receive a
confidential written report, which compiles the full picture and
proposes an agenda upon which you will work.
Setting targets: Once the
coaching agenda is settled, you are challenged to set tough personal
targets against it. Winning your commitment for ambitious
improvements is a fundamental part of the process. The targets are
