based goals and more personal objectives, the inevitable challenge being to find the right balance between the two. A key part of your coach's role is to help you to look at your world from fresh viewpoints, and to stretch your capacity for lateral thinking about what may be possible. This combination of envisioning and target-setting is vital. As well as defining priorities, it establishes clear 'milestones' and helps sustain momentum throughout.

Regular sessions: With the agenda in place, regular meetings between you and your coach take place over twelve months. Why so long? Because coaching is an iterative process leading to perceptual shifts in thinking, not just a cognitive exercise. Progress towards targets is discussed regularly, and specific issues relating to achievements and commitments are dealt with. Targets are sharpened as you discover new perspectives.

In between regular sessions, you may contact your coach at any time, either to discuss an issue over the telephone, or to arrange an ad hoc meeting.
