How does my career experience add value to what I bring to client relationships?

I have over 25 years of bluechip corporate experience, with local and multinational businesses.  I have worked in senior leadership roles, have been a member of business Excos, and lead teams from 5 to 180 people. My experience is deep; my core industries are Banking, Insurance, Professional Services, Resources and Technology. My experience has lead to my ability to navigate the ambiguity, contradiction, stress and uncertainty that is pervasive in our roles

What qualifies me for my work with Change Partners?

I am a member of the Centre for Executive Coaching through which I trained as an Executive Coach as well as a member of the International Coaching Federation. I am also a Chartered Accountant and a member of South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. I also hold a BSc in Technology. I have always had strong strategic acumen and the ability to simplify complex problems, to a state where solutioning is possible.

How does my career experience add value to what I bring to client relationships?

In my career, I have qualified as a Chartered Accountant and been both finance director and CEO of businesses in the rubber and paper manufacturing sectors and in coal marketing and distribution. I was known both for my rigorous financial management of these businesses, but also for my entrepreneurial and innovative skills. I have assessed feasibility, arranged finance and developed major infrastructure projects in my corporate career. I have also spent 7 years as a strategy consultant. I partnered clients in “startups” and co-created growth strategies for established businesses. I realised that business success is heavily dependent on effective leadership and engaged teams. For the past 20 years I have been able to integrate my business skills and understanding of business culture and leadership strengths to support my clients through business coaching and organisational and leadership development.

In addition to my Commerce degree and CA qualification I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Coaching from Middlesex University. I am also a member of the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches. Whilst I facilitate and coach in English, I can also converse in German and Afrikaans.

Over a period of more than 25 years, I worked in various industries both in South Africa and internationally. These include the banking industry; the insurance industry and I held a number of executive roles mainly in South African state-owned entities. For the last 15 years of my career as a senior executive, I led a number of diverse portfolios. I also acted as a CEO of a large state-owned entity for over 2 years and in this role, I engaged with diverse critical stakeholders including Boards, Parliament, various regulatory bodies and other critical stakeholders. In addition to strategic thinking, I also bring a good understanding of corporate governance, having been part of Exco for a number of years and also having been a board member of a large NGO operating in sub- Saharan Africa.

My working career spans 7yrs in the petroleum industry and 3yrs in fashion retail, focusing mainly on the management of Service Station/Store operations and specializing in customer service strategy.  I also spent 6yrs in the postal service.

These different roles equipped me in change management and leadership. As a General Manager of Social grants business, understanding government priorities and Batho Pele principles were at the core of my role, while my consulting business and working with a successful business such as Sun International gave me insight into building effective teams.
